- Don’t have ‘civilians’ guard hostages. Don’t place hostages in the middle of civilians.
- Don’t prevent the Red Cross from visiting hostages and confirming they’re ok.
- Don’t parrot numbers of dead that don’t separate combatants from civilians.
Those are some of Josh’s rules for how to avoid civilian casualties during war and or hostage rescue attempts.
People have accused me of lacking humanity for saying such things not recognizing the hypocrisy and contradictions they have expressed have made it clear to me there aren’t good options here.
These people would watch us be loaded onto trains and would lecture us as to why it is our fault for having been placed in that situation.
So I can’t and won’t take them seriously, especially when their one sided blame provides expressions of outrage that aren’t applied anywhere else.
It is unfortunate but then again if you don’t take hostages and murder civilians you don’t encounter these situations now do you.
What Did Uncle Walt Say?
Someone asked me to explain this quote but I couldn’t respond because it happened in a dream.
Several other things happened during that dream which left me wondering if I was Charlie Brown trying to kick the football right before Lucy pulled it away or not.
Decided that even if my hairlines resembles old Chuck that isn’t me, no sir and no ma’am.
Thought about what I wanted to say or not say and wrote it down in multiple places and forms not knowing if it would be read, heard or even understood.
That alleviated some concerns and enraged me about other because it became clear that too many people have failed to engage in real communication.
“We haven’t made decisions or choices because we haven’t talked.”
There was no response nor did I expect one because I said it to myself.
Am anxiously awaiting hearing back from my cardiologist about his thoughts but not because I worry about dropping dead. I really don’t and have the same plan for the Grim Reaper or Angel of Death as my Grandpa Wilner.
“Dude will get his bony ass kicked because I have things to do.”
The point and purpose of the tests is to establish baselines and it is why I got an Apple Watch to figure out what I am doing and then make adjustments-more exercise, better diet etc.
So I am impatient about getting answers in regards to some things and have recognized as well that in some areas I am going to have to come up with my own.
That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I like taking action and am famous for asking for forgiveness later and or pivoting as needed.
It is effective.
A Broken Gate
“You’re going to let me in, it is not a question of if but when.”
Foundations move here in Texas which is why a gate that was working pretty well ran into some issues. It was most assuredly helped by the men who replaced the roof and perhaps the gardener.
Said gate didn’t respond when I snarled at it nor did it reply when I looked at the frame and said I might have to make you naked.
That was because I played around with replacing all of the pickets so I don’t have to try and match colors on one of them.
Could Macgyver some kind of expansion screw, wood dowel or anchor to fix this one. Could use another piece of metal, small piece of wood or wire to make this thing work as it should.
Could probably make that happen in a short time and do it in a way that makes the gate more functional than it is now. Need better than just sliding in and out.
Question here is do I fix it properly or do I make it work for me.
I have endless patience for some things and none for other.

I think it’s wise to stay vigilant in many ways, even if we do things somewhat differently. I don’t trust people standing behind me, I try looking bigger than I am, I don’t blink a lot and if needed I can be very friendly so keep people guessing about me. And in person, I don’t tell everyone I’m doing it, only my closest friends, all of whom I’d take a bullet for, and I’m put myself in the position here and there, the last time about 30 years ago… not sure I’d do it now, and I don’t want to be in the situation to see if I would.
As for the lack of humanity or having people say it to you, I go back to a line someone once said (actually, many someone’s have said it), “who cares what you think”. 🙂
Joshua Wilner
Vigilance is important. I don’t like having people stand behind me either. I try to maintain some situational awareness.
I don’t use ATMs very often anymore but when I do I am never wearing headphones or earbuds.
One of the greatest gifts of life is having friends you’d take a bullet for. Those kinds of friendships are few and precious.
