Can’t Find My Way Home- What Music Do You Listen To?

Santamonicapier

Sometimes the kids in the photo above ask me to let them in on the plan because you know there is always a plan for life and dad always has the answers.

And that is part of the joy of childhood, this sense that the taller people actually know more than you do and that you can go to them for the answers to the important questions like “can I have ice cream before dinner, can I eat chocolate cake for breakfast and will you buy this for me?”

Those are important questions and I like them far better than many of the ones that came when I turned/grew into one of those taller people. That is not to say there aren’t benefits to being one of those taller people because now I eat whatever I want for breakfast, don’t always make my bed and I tear the mattress tags off for no other reason than just because.

Can’t Find My Way Home

So the movers were supposed to arrive at 8 AM to gather up my gear so that somewhere around late afternoon I would throw my few remaining things in the car and then end chapter one of the Texas part of my life.

But if you know the saying about people playing and G-d laughing you know he decided that he hasn’t yanked my chain much lately so he pushed the movers arrival back to around 5 something or maybe it was the Houston to DFW traffic that did it.

Either way it forced me to change my plans and to try to decide if I was willing to head off into the wild blue yonder at 8 PM at night. Thought about a bit, turned on Can’t Find My Way Home and then moved onto Tales of Brave Ulysses and finally decided that I would sleep on the floor tonight and get an early start.

And yes I did include Should I Stay Or Should I Go in the list of music of the moment.

Little People Are Calling

One day those little people in the picture above will figure out that I don’t have all of the answers to the tough questions and they’ll look at me as I looked at my parents through squinted eyes, but there will be no finger pointing.

No sir, no finger pointing at me. I may not have dad’s glare but I have something better, but don’t ask me what it is because I won’t tell you. And the reason I won’t tell is because Ma and Pa Wilner read this and they need to know that I know things.

But let’s move back to the little people because I keep looking at the photo and wonder if maybe I should sleep for two or three hours and then start driving.

Haven’t seen those little buggers in far too long. Haven’t been able to hang out for far too long.

So the season of driving has come to visit me here in Texas so that it can take me back to LA and that is why I have several play lists on my phone because when you drive for 18 hours so that you can make it a two day trip you need something to keep you company.

And with that we’ll open the floor up.

What do you listen to?

Julie Barrett  🙂 I got the notification anyway, Julie and didn’t notice you were engaging in self-talk (how pompous that sounds!).
I’ll be over to your place in a little while.
In the meantime, Josh, I have an assortment of cakes and other Indian savories for you, waiting when you take a break and make an appearance. 🙂

Aha, well that is probably you are picking up on the trauma I had over the weekend (see my lastest post for details)…I always like a good cake with chocolate when I am traumatized 🙂  I think @joshuawilner must be on the road by now, it’s around 6:30am Texas time. (Josh, I thought of the perfect song for you, just came on the radio here, Radar Love by Golden Earring, “I’ve been driving all night my hands tight on the wheeeel….)

Julie Barrett I am spooked now, Julie! Yesterday I was listening to Kashmir and thought of you. Oooh.

Someone told me recently I should revisit the Meat Puppets newer stuff, can’t say whether that’s a good or bad idea as I haven’t tried it yet.  Can’t Find My Way Home is my favorite all time song, followed very closely by Led Zeppelin (Kashmir lately, but also Good Time/Bad Times and Hey Hey What Can I Do).

As soon as I read your post, “Take the long way home” (Supertramps) began playing in an endless loop in my head, Josh!  Brings back so many memories.
    Safe travels to you! Hugs!
